Soft tonneau and tub liner help please

Hi guys, Hoping someone can help...I have a genuine Nissan plastic tub liner in my 2013 D22 and want to fit a soft tonneau. When installing the clips for the bar in the middle do I drill thru the liner or do I need to cut the liner around them? I'm a converted Rodeo owner, I wish I'd bought my D22 sooner I absolutely love it!! Thank you.

Can't help with the fitting, I've got a D40 with a canopy, but I'm hoping I can bump this up so someone sees it and can answer you.

I got it sorted, FYI drill through it is the answer. Spoke to a fitter at Nissan. Thanks for all your advice.
