Squealing Noise

Hi All,

I've got an 03 D22 Diesel which is making a squealing sound at a certain rev range (accelerating and decelerating). At first thought it was an exhaust leak but has been checked and nothing wrong with the exhaust, replaced the Turbo because it was on its way out anyway but the noise is still there. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

is it a belt squeal? split turbo hose? alternator brushes?

Might even just be the idler pulley bearing. Give it a squirt with some silicone lube and see what it does - don't get any on the belt. Use dry lube (available in most auto parts shops) for the belt.

I had similar problem, turned out being the alternator. I had slight play in and out on the pulley.

I had a bad squeal on an old rodeo, got told the turbo was needing replacement. Took it to a good mechanic and within two seconds told it was the exhaust gasket. It was a metal gasket and the leak made it resonate and sound terrible. Might be worth a look.
