Tapping methods for EGT gauge

wanted to start a thread on different methods and reasons when tapping for EGT.
from what i know there are 3 options,
1.drill and use a pencil magnet to get the shaveing out
2.use grease on the tapper bit to collect the shaveing as you go
3.have the engine running which pushes the shaveings out as you drill due to pressure

so what has everyone used and what havent you used and why?
also add other option if you know them.

DO NOT drill and tap the manifold with out removing it from the car first. The shavings will go thru the turbo.
You can do the dump pipe on the car if you cant be arsed removing it, but it will be more difficult, and the shavings will end up in your cat.

or you could remove your egr pipe and blank it off with a plate, drill and tap the plate for your egt probe and cover 2 jobs in 1.

And don't trust grease on the tap to catch all the filings.

I use taps on a daily basis and there is always a few filings that get pushed through the hole no mater how careful you are.
