A Lap of Australia and the Kimberley

I haven't checked in for quite a while mainly because I've been out on the wallaby. Just completed an 18,994km trip around Australia which included a loop through the Kimberley. I won't turn this into a travelogue but will concentrate on how my Navara performed. Problems started on Day 2 on...

    fuel consumption

I just got back from a weekend trip to the Rutherglen wineries along the Murray River - a 1300 km round trip and I'm still checking my numbers.........usually get 13ltrs/100km but for this trip I thought I change the fuel brand and bugger me if'n I didn't get a marked improvement to...

    160K major service

I would do the book service (or get it done by someone else if you don't feel confident doing it yourself) on time. From memory this service includes pulling the axles and packing bearings and changing gearbox oils etc. Maybe it is just me but I like to look after mechanical things in the...

    D40 just stopped

Yeah fine with a specialised water/ethanol system......but I dare you to tip a litre of water into your air box and not suffer a problem.

    D40 just stopped

If the air box got really wet then you were awfully lucky that you are not now rebuilding your engine. A tablespoon full of water ingested into the intake and you could well hydraulic the engine. Water doesn't compress and once in the cylinders you stand a really good chance of a hydraulic...

10mm spacer on tough dog lift

Don't know which year model you have but mine is a 2008 Spanish built D40 and I have a Ridepro/Snake Racing set up in mine. The spacers were originally 35mm and these have been machined down to 25mm. They have now been fitted for 125000km and my tyres wear perfectly even. I do religiously do a...

    Rear axle seals

Parts replaced this time around Paul are: NI143232-EB70A Inner oil seal NI43098-EB30A Cage - Rear axle I recall after the last job they simply replaced the oil seals and by the time I got back home (approx 100km) I could see a seep starting inboard of the wheel. I brought it to their...

    How to Improve fuel economy?

I can only wish for figures like some of you guys get. I've been tracking my fuel usage for >115,000km and getting a return of >14ltrs/100km. You can check out my record here: https://www.fuelly.com/driver/pete22/2008-d40-dual-cab-ute?fu=3909974

    Rear axle seals

Picked up the ute this afternoon after the 2nd warranty "fix" of leaking rear axle oil seals. Here's hoping this time they last a bit longer than 10 months before leaking.

    Rear axle seals

Well the seal replacement didn't hold up for too long.....both real axle seal are again leaking. Worse on the passenger side with oil actually forming a drip but it is seeping quite badly on the driver's side too. Off to Mr Nissan for another go under warranty (hopefully!!) on 3 Feb. Will post...

    Fuel problem

My driveway has quite a steep incline down from the road to the garage and this same problem happens to my 2008 D40 but only when parked overnight with the REAR of the vehicle facing downhill. On start up I have enough fuel to get to the top of the driveway (about 15 metres) and then have to...

What warranty work has your D40 had done.

My D40 is nearing 5 years old and has 116000 km on the clock. The following is the list of warranty work I've had done: 1. Replaced torque converter 2. Replaced stereo unit 3. Replaced cruise control surround (twice) 4. Replaced rear axle oil seals - both sides 5. Replaced cracked transmission...

    Definitely run over a Chinaman

After another 3 days with Mr Nissan to have another crack at fixing the oil leak I got my ute back today. I live about 80km from the dealer and having a look after the run home it seems that the oil leak is fixed this time. Here's hoping.

    D40 Fuel Economy

To help others better understand these fuel consumption figure people are posting could I suggest that everyone includes the Year of Manufacture, engine size, transmission (auto or manual) and configuration eg dual cab, king cab etc in their signature blocks. Thanks.

    Definitely run over a Chinaman

Well that repair only lasted a month. Injector pump oil seal replaced last month and it is leaking again. Nissan had a look today and the ute will go back in next week to have the job done again. They are unsure why the seal has failed so quickly but they intend looking more deeply into the...

    Water Separator filter

I've fitted Water Watch and it works for me. When I got mine back in 2009 they didn't come with a fitting kit so had to manufacture a bracket etc. Pics show where mine in fitted......the OEM fitting kit has them mounted on the inner mudguard/firewall passenger side of engine bay.

    chipit DPF delete pipe

Agree with most of what you have said except "...and d40 smoke a bit anyway". My auto 2008 D40 fitted with a DPF and with 115000km on the clock does not smoke at all. The manuals with no DPF do smoke but I've not yet seen a DPF fitted auto that smokes.

High pitch whistle or squeek when cruising

Make sure you keep an eye on any work done by Kittles Nissan in Alice....they don't have the most robust of reputations.

    Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark he said!!

The camper being towed was a Conqueror UEV-490 (http://www.conqueroraustralia.com.au/images/stories/reviews/brochureconqueror.pdf) and I believe it is well within the towing capacity and ball download limits of the D40. I reckon this is entirely due to getting everything airborne coming over...
