Alternator type???????

A mate has a December 2009 Navara ST - D40 Diesel. He wants to install a Redarc SB112 Smart Start however needs to know if the alternator is computer controlled as this may prevent the use of the SB112 type isolator.

Smart alternators came out in 2011, I think. My own 2009 model is as dumb as they come.

Doesn't mean I want an upgrade - sometimes it's good to keep 'em stupid and doing what they do best.

I am talking about alternators, nothing else.

Correct, 2011 550 got the smart alternator then all models from 2012 on

Mine is a 2010 STX with the 140kw donk and it has the smart alternator.
