Another Loss of Power Thread

Hi,

I've just purchased a D40 Navara ST-X 2.5L TD (128Kw) 5Sp Auto. Nice vehicle to drive, but....

It doesn't feel like 128Kw! It barley keeps up speed up hill (unloaded). Am I just expecting too much?

I've reset to ECU, checked to turbo spins freely, cleaned and re-seated sensors but still seems gutless...

I can't really hear the turbo, but I've heard that if you have a factory fitted snorkel, you cant really hear it...

Any Suggestions?

I have a manual so wouldn't know how autos drive. Shouldn't be a pig tho. How many Kay's on the clock?

Unless you have an issue with your donk remember the 126kws are pushing 2tonne plus of brick. The old vn commodore had similar h/p with a lot less weight.

That's what I'm trying to get at. I've never driven a D40, but have owned a 2003 ZD30 Patrol.

The Patrol is >120kw (roughly 10kw less) and a lot heaver, but seemed to pull harder...

So to any auto D40 owners please confirm the following...

1. Should you hear the turbo well, or are they quite?
2. At lets say 110kmph (un loaded) going up a moderately long hill and put your foot to the floor, would you expect it to accelerate or just stay the same or a bit less; ie. 105kmph

I've put into diag mode and no error codes...

I have a manual but in standard form i was quite happy.it would happily climb a hill up to 130kmph mabee more..im basing this on the freeway uptrack leaving adelaide.

Have you thought about a specialist looking at it?. A properly tuned d40 will go with a prod at 100kph. You may have a boost issue, check all the hoses for looseness . Check the scv and the boost solenoid.

Thanks Camo and John,

RE John - That is the most logical answer that wouldn't bring up codes...
I need to get my wife to turn the car on while I see it the actuator moves at all when it turns over and/or check if there is vacuum in the actuator hose...

Yes I'm taking it into the dealer it was purchased from new, so hopefully they have an idea....

Hope all goes well.there is a bit of a list of things that pack up on them.some cheap some not so cheap...what year is yours?

Obd reader and a smartfone.
You can check the boost and read pending codes...there issues the ecu has logged but havnt amounted to much.some stay after a reatart some dont.
