G'day All.
I'm a newbie on this forum as I bought a 2001 V6 (VG30) 2wd Navara yesterday.
I had 1989 D21 2.4 L many years ago and as my life has come around in a big circle I decided I'd like to have a 2wd dual cab again. Due to an expensive divorce few years ago the finances dictate that an older (cheaper) ute was the go.
After looking around I eventually found one that appears to be in fair condition. Its a VG30 V6 petrol with 204000klm on it. its an auto (unfortunately) but the condition of the rest of it made me end up buying it.
So first thing I got to do is change the oil and filter. Thats when I discovered what a horrible design it is.
Ive done a search on this forum but haven't found anything yet so,
Can anyone tell me the secret to removing the oil filter? I can't get a strap wrench on it, I went and bought a "you beaut removal tool" from Repco (that turned out to be no good as it would not grip down on the filter).
Surely the starter doesnt have to be removed to get the oil filter off.
Years ago I had a 300zx which has the same basic block but it was not that hard to remove the filter on.
I'm starting to wish now that I had waited to a good 4 cylinder had turned up.
Thanks in advance
