Hi all,I have an05 zd30 nav with 3inch exhaust, snorkel, land cruiser airbox &egr mod and I am only getting 12psi of boost.i'm chasing possible problems and solutions or is that acceptable?

there are TONS of things to check....need some more info....did it just start?

try another boost gauge
leaking top pipe hose joiner
pre turbo inlet restriction
possible turbo issue
egr blanking plate leaking
wastegate leaking
exhaust restriction
inlet manifold leaking
exhaust manifold leaking

standard wastegate is around 15psi....with exhaust you should be seeing possible 16psi so you are down a few

I've had the car about 3 years and never new any different but when I took the nav to local mechanic to get pulley and fan belt replaced he mentioned it felt a bit sluggish and should get a boost gauge fitted and check psi which I did now it looks like I have opened a can of worms.Should I take it to a diesel turbo specialist and get them to go over it?

Try this tuner based at brendale Shane he knows zd30 back the front also has a dyno and can tune chips ect.

Allstar tuning brendale ph 32056850 Richard is the manager very highly recommended .

Stock boosxt is 14psi according to the books but most Nav's ive tuned/dyno'd etc.. have all been around 12-13psi.

Thanks, that's a relief to read that.the gauge has a peak function and it peaks at half way between 12 & 13 psi so not so worried now.would still like to put a chip on once my bike sells!!!!

my nav when it just had exhaust/EGR would hit 18psi.
now with tones of mods ive set it to 19psi at 2000rpm

12-13 psi seems very low especially with exhaust/EGR
you should see around 17-18psi at 3000 ish

Just wondering guys what the max recommended post would be for the YD25 with EGR and exhaust done. Just so I know when I start fitting chips etc what would be a safe level.

Cheers

thats odd. mine and most mentioned on here have been 15 psi in stock form.
with exhaust mods mine went from 15 psi to 18 psi.
according to the manual wastegate spring is 20 psi.

edit: where you measuring at boost sensor or manifold?

I always measured at the boost sensor.

I must have run hundreds of these things on the dyno over the years and ive never seen one make 18psi with exhaust and egr block :/ Very odd indeed.

just a mad thought, the turbo doesn't line up perfectly witht he intake pipe. there is a little kink in the connecting hose. plus theres been a few issues with loose bolts on the turbo.
i wonder if there is some assembly problems with the turbo and they are twisted which changes wastegate operation giving higher/lower boost ??

My ZD30 is not reaching full boost either and I cant figure out why. Sometimes it will only hit 10PSI and other times it reaches 14. It is never variable within a single trip. If its max is 10 when driving to work in the morning then it will only reach 10 during that drive but in the afternoon on the way home its max may be 14PSI.

I finally got around to fitting a boost gauge to mine over the weekend. It's running 14psi peak that's with egr mod and xr6 intercooler no exhaust yet.

thanks for feedback guys, not sure if i'm any clearer hahaha but it seems i have a leaky seal in my turbo so will probably grab one of those highflow turbos from forefront asap.

Hi Tweake,

A lack of power is difficult to gauge without a comparison vehicle. My boost seems to hit 10PSI at about 2000 RPM.

I havn't had a chance to check the allen key bolts that I've read about at the back of the turbo. Hopefully that could be my problem but I havn't noticed any unusual noises.

A leaky seal Shane??

Is it leaking oil?

Yeah the mechanic I took my nav to said the seal is gone in the turbo and he could physically see the oil dripping out of it but there is not one drop on my driveway.i will be keeping a close eye on the dip stick for the next few weeks to see if it is using any oil

disconnect the breather for a while.
they blow so much oil through the breather it makes it look like turbo is blowing oil out.

max boost on a stock zd30 motor is at 3000 rpm.
