I've just got my 2010 d40 and my on road driving which is mostly empty. and i'm wondering if i can take out one of my leaves to make it ride a bit softer so i don't feel every bump in the road

Is your rear suspension original? If so, it's probably sagged and the vehicle is likely riding on the helper springs - that would explain the harshness. You can't safely remove the helpers.

Best bet would be replacement springs.

yeah it's original and i't only just ticked over 60k but it had electric trailer brakes fitted so it might have towed a fare bit. can i get them reconditioned?

Think doc might be onto it here. Generally I have found the D40's on the soft side for starters.

Replacement would probably be the go. I went for EFS. Just the 150kg extra load ones with Bilstien shocks and it rides very nicely unladen- for a truck.
