looking at getting some 16x8 Allied Wheels in a +20 offset, how do you find your setup, any scrubbing or getting many stones thrown up on side of truck?
Ironman awning all good? Cheers Matt

Hi Matt,

Cut away the 'square' piece on the mudflap and no scrubbing at all.
Haven't noticed any stones, but I drive pretty conservatively on the gravel. I have noticed more mud on the doors -but that could be because I've tried to get in more mud and due to the side lugs on the MTZ's. The tyres do not sit out past the guards.
I am happy with the set up and look forward to testing it out on the Queens Birthday.

I have only used the awning a couple of times and it is great to have over the swag and gear during rain. I can put it up on my own. It is good for occasional use but if I was using it more regularly I would probably look at something more sturdy. It is great for what I need.

Cheers.

Well folks - some updates.

Fitted a K&N filter this week.

I have ordered some EFS heavy duty rear springs and torsion bars. Talked it over with Ray at Morwell Springs, who specialises in Lovells, but he reckons for what I do they are not worth the additional dollars and he is happy with what EFS have.
The medium Old Man Emu will be given the flick - nothing wrong with them and they work a treat when there is only limited weight in the back. (Going to anyone who offers the right price - only 12 months old). When loaded up with gear and dogs they sag and the rear end droops. The Nav will soon be retired as my daily driver too & from work so I have no issue with a harder ride. (A second hand 4 cyl buzz box is due soon).
New stuff getting fitted on 29/11.

I have also ordered a Roo system chip & exhaust which I am paying off and hope to have by late January.

Merry Xmas to me!!!

(Haven't told her yet - and I probably won't 'cause she won't know the difference!!)

EFS springs & bars.

The EFS has been fitted and I am very pleased with the ride. I don't consider it to be any harder - just feels great. The new torsion bars have made a great improvement up front.

Height comparison from OME mediums to EFS heavy.

Cost for new EFS HD springs and EFS HD torsion bars and almost new U bolts - everything greased up and fitted - $1020.00.

Hah............I forgot about that! Should have take the pic from the other side! Story is it happened on a very easy track when I was cruising with mates, and wasn't paying attention as I went through a wash out...!!!! Bounced on it a few times to stop it rubbing on the sills and all clear. Rock sliders are on the list.

Nice work Ridge. It's subtle and I dig that.
I'll have to check out your other pages and add up the dollars. ;)

Ridge, this thing is really coming together. I'll be interested to hear your report on the chip and exhaust.

Cheers mate.

The chip & exhaust have arrived but there were some 'issues' in transit, but Roo Systems so far have been very helpful and I have no doubt they will sort it out.

Rocksliders are under development - so they aren't far away.

Soon to follow will be a Redarc dual battery set up, followed by some front end strengthening, and hopefully a custom drawer for one side of the puppy bars.

Roo systems chip & exhaust.

Roo systems chip & 3" exhaust now fitted.

Some issues fitting the exhaust - it pressed hard up against the drive shaft - so no chance of it being a DIY kit! The guys did some magic and it all fits well now. I'll get under it later to have a better view.

The fitter believes the chip is a re-badged DP Chip.

Results are very noticeable - goes well. Not much noisier - which I'm happy about. Turbo spools up much quicker.

Results of the dyno - 3rd gear, tyre pressures at 32.
Standard - 60kw.
Chip set at 5 - 70kw
Chip set at 7 - 76kw
add exhaust - 80.2kw.

Advised to keep an eye on fuel consumption and if too heavy drop it back to 6.

Got back from my trip to Bermagui NSW. Towed a dog trailer with about 200kg of dogs plus crates and dog junk, fold up canopy and kayak on the roof and tub/canopy full of gear and 'her stuff'. The Nav pulled like a 15 year old boy over People magazine. The chip and exhaust have made a huge difference. The road is windy and hilly in places and we were able to pass slower vehicles on the hills in fourth gear - something we couldn't do last year. Fuel consumption was no worse - possibly better (sorry to the stat fanatics but I don't calculate ltrs per 100kms etc).
Very happy with the performance.

Greaseable shackles for the rear are on their way (not extended).

Coming up - some custom rock sliders............!!!

Have researched extended/stronger upper control arms and they are on the menu.

Ridge, you must be pretty happy with those dyno figures mate!
Love your rig mate (as you already know!). I would like to do suspension next, but it's a big one money wise, would be good to have it by the border track trip so we'll see.
When you say ride is hard with your setup, does it feel better than standard or have you had to go extra hard to accommodate your weight in the back?
Cheers, catch u on Sunday when I get out of bed!

Hi Marcus,

Yep - I'm happy with the impovements.

See my comments above. I'm not one to get to fussy over ride 'comfort' as I have had a few utes and a couple of 4x4 and I don't expect them to ride like a sedan.

The current set up with HD torsion and leaf springs works for me - taking those things into account - ie that our Nav's have torsion bars and leaf springs.

Suspension is a big spend so shop around for a good price and make sure you now what you want so you don't waste $$$ like I did.

Cheers.

My bad, missed that comment, I saw the one previous about not daily driver for much longer etc etc. So are you still running the ome shocks?
Obvious choice for me is ironman as I know someone there that can get me chop out. Have heard varying opinions on them, I'll do some research....
