Evening all

Got a 07 d40 2.5 diesel Spanish built 220k on clock

On last service mechanic mentioned replacing chain as they tend to go around 250k.

Just wanting to put the feelers out and see if anyone else has had experience with this, how many k's, cost, parts used etc

Cheers

From what the others on this site have said , cheaper to do it before it lets go while driving. If its making noise and the mechanic is trustworthy best to do it . Couple of the guys have bought the duplex chain online from YD25 . Try a search on this site you should get some good reading material.

Nah mate this never happens, no one who drives a navara has ever heard of this :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

Nah just taking the piss. Common issue with the YD25 unfortunately.

Do some google searches for YD25 timing chain problem and let your nightmare begin.

They can go from anytime after 80,000 km. If you are up over 200,000 km you are probably ok. But might be worth checking out www.yd25.com.au for a bit of diagnostic information if you want to learn a bit more. This forum also has lots of useful information.

Good luck.

Being an early model D40 which supposedly are the ones that have trouble will timing chain failure, you have had a very good run out of it.

Have your mechanic to at least inspect the chain, sprocket and tensioner for wear. If the Timing chain lets go, not always but most usually causes catastrophic engine failure and these engines are very expensive to rebuild. In fact could be as much as what your truck is actually worth.

Welcome to the forum! You will find a wealth of knowledge on here although the search function is not the best.
