If it's the SLI battery (Starter Lights Ignition) then it could be a flooded battery, definitely NOT a gel, but it could be an AGM - some AGMs can be used as crankers - that's what the military use 'em for.
Most (non-AGM) crankers don't like being deep cycled, but if it didn't cost you much then you're not losing much when it carks it!
Improve its longevity by charging it up again as soon as possible after discharging it.
