    Fitting 31" Tyres Bible

The 265 x 70 x 16 that come standard are already 31 inch, you gain nothing except cheaper tyres and worse handling on the road.

    Glow plugs

I know the glow plug relay is under the bonnet, I was under the impression that the controller was behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell and that it also has a relay. That was the case on my Toyota smurf. The engine usually fires first revolution of the crank except first thing in the...

    Suspension Upgrades

Can vouch for the Bilstiens. I just replaced the TJM Gold shocks which I thought were pretty good with Bilstiens and ant believe how much better the ride is. $780 delivered from the distributor, he could not have been more helpful.

    Glow plugs

My ute (2004 ZD30) has sudeenly developed a clicking noise from the passenger footwell. I presume this is the glow plug relay (under the passenger kick panel??). I reckon the glow plugs are knackered at 310,000 kms. It starts pretty well during the day but needs a little more cranking than usual...

    Circuit timer on glow plugs

When the relay trips it turns the glow plugs off as well as the glow plug light on the dash. Even in minus 2 or 3 here it starts Ok on one cycle, about 3 or 4 seconds. I also have a switch down by the steering column that gives manifold heat and presumably start overnight in the snowfields. My...

    Canopy air vent suggestions

You don't need an air vent on a Navara canopy. I leave the sliding windows open about 50mm and use a cable tie to prevent them from opening further and that pressurises the canopy enough that no dust gets into the canopy. I have driven in torrential rain and almost no water gets in. Best bit is...

    Boost and egt gauge

To fit the pillar pod you need gauges that are not too deep. About 30mm is the limit. I used Auto Meter cobolt gauges which have black faces. You can get Auto Meter gauges with white faces. I got mine from AutoBarn in Bendigo which had them in stock. They will order then in if they don't have...

    How many km's on your D22 ?

280,000km on my 04. still on the original clutch. It has an LPG kit (installed at 120,000), 2.5 inch exhaust, 80 series airbox and a chip.Got rid of the EGR at the same time as the LPG. I get 8 liters/100km in normal driving (would like higher gear) and 11l/100km towing my 18ft Jayco.

    Zd30 woes

Not only the turbo, I'd be very concerned about the fuel pump too.

    egt -engine off idea (basic)

Turbo timers are illegal. It is not legal to leave the engine running while the vehicle is unattended. The authorieties do not differentiate btween turbo timers and dill not shutting their engines off. Much better to use a pyrometer and idle the temp down to about 200 degrees. Usually you stop...

    chipped EGTs

Have any of you blokes with a chip fitted to your ZD30 experienced excessive EGTs, particularly when towing? What about rolling coal, ie. black smoke? I thought I'd ask before I bit the bullet.

    Dont buy 550 navara

The V6 diesel in the D40 made by Renault (as the oiler in the Xtrail). Gale Banks does a lot of work with Euro V6 turbo diesels and might be a source of an exhaust brake. Truckies love 'em and they work on slushboxes as well as manuals. The Dodge, Ford and Chevy diesel pickups have a form of...

    EGT gauge reviews/comparo

I had a VDO EGT gauge in degrees C but it wouldn't fit in the pillar pod. I got an Autometer "Cobalt" Egt and matching boost guage and they look the bees knees. The Autometer seems a bit more responsive than the VDO and I reads 20 -30 degrees warmer. If you are fitting gauges to a pillar pod the...

    ZD30 Overheating

I had a similar problem recently. Only notice it getting hot with the van hooked up. Turned to be a radiator partly blocked by sludge. It was only passing about 25% of normal coolant flow. I believe this was a result of mixing good coolant with the crap premixed stuff. I put a new radiator in...

    Water/Methanol injection

Thanks guys, that's been really helpful. I was looking a Snow Performance kit but they are much dearer than the Devils Own. I never see much over 500 degrees with an 18ft van, my egts are much lower after being tuned by Berrima Diesel. I just changed egt gauges, from a VDO to an Autometer and...

    Water/Methanol injection

Do any of your blokes have any experience with water/methanol injection on a zd30? Does it make extra power. lower egts and what boost level does it kick in? Seems like a good way to get a little extra power and reduce egts while towing.

how on earth do you tune D22 ZD30

Take it to a Diesel Expert. The ZD30 has a Bosch VP44 pump which is a very common fitting to pre Common Rail electronically controlled diesels so there should be plenty of knowledge out there. I took mine to Berrima Diesel, it wasn't cheap ($800) but worth every cent. Cleaned and checked...
