Rattling in steering in the cab

Here is a weird one guys, and I'm stumped. Just behind the steering wheel, in the column there seems to be something loose, really loose and it rattles. Weirdly it's only whilst traveling down hill, in both 4wd and 2wd. If I hold the wheel straight the rattle is constants and there is still a fair amount play in the wheels (left to right). Almost like my steering wheel wasn't attached properly. It's quite concerning and has only started on this recent trip.

So far I know it's not my steering wheel, and I've removed column plastics to find where it's coming from, but no luck. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it could be, or if I'm boned and have to go to a specialist?

Have you checked your steering shaft in the engine bay. Make sure its not loose. Also check your upper ball joints and your idler arm and tie rod ends

Cheers scotty, I'll crawl all around it on the weekend, it was just weird rattle sounds in the cab.

Is the steering wheel adjustment locked ?

Yep, I'm just going to go though it and hopefully find something obvious. I hope.

Could also check your wheel balance
