My tow ball tongue was difficult to remove as well, I assume that you have undone the retaining bolt under the receiver?. Once this is done several large taps with a suitable hammer might do I used my recovery hitch the heaviest thing I had at the time.

I have 2010 ST auto I had my turbo replaced under 1000ks but that ended up being the boost control solinoid. But mine also makes a thump noise when you back out of the shed give it a quick stab on the juice it thumps i havnt followed it up though.
